CLERMONT, Fla. – The IUP softball team wrapped up its week in Florida with a 4-3 loss to Hillsdale and a 0-0 eight inning tie with Northwood Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks went 3-10-1 during their time in Florida and are now 4-11-1 overall on the year.
In the Hillsdale game, the Chargers took the lead at 4-2 with three runs in the top of the fourth inning. IUP cut its deficit in half with an RBI single by
Kassie Kesneck with two outs in the sixth inning but went 1-2-3 in the seventh for the loss.
Brooklyn Kotula and
Jenna Rhue each had two hits, while
Lauren Goetz,
Kaitlyn Beers and
Sara Hull all raked a double.
Three pitchers combined to complete the game in the circle, with Kotula getting credited with the loss after giving up three earned in three innings of work.
In the tie with Northwood, the teams combined for just six hits in the eight-inning game.
Lauren Zola tossed seven innings in the circle, scattering five hits with four strikeouts and two walks to earn the shutout.

The Crimson Hawks have four home games on deck next weekend with doubleheaders against Shippensburg Saturday and Mercyhurst Sunday.
