Crimson Hawks drop match to Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. – Mariana Valenzuela won a pair of matches but the IUP women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Goldey-Beacom Friday indoors at Delcastle Tennis Center.

Valenzuela posted IUP's lone singles win with a 0-6, 7-5, 10-6 (10-7) victory at the No. 4 spot over Alma Garcia Valle. She also paired with Julia Newman for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles.

The Crimson Hawks, who fell to 6-9 on the season, were playing shorthanded without Laura Dunarova against the No. 7 team from the East Region. Normally the No. 3 singles player, without Dunarova in the lineup the Nos. 4-6 players all moved up in the order.

This includes Valenzuela, who has played in 10 matches as IUP's No. 5 singles player.

Goldey-Beacom also features the seventh-ranked doubles team in Division II, with Katya Minchenkova and Thais Andreotti falling to the Lightning's Lotte Lesscher y Post and Catarina Zheng at No. 1.
