AT A GLANCE
IUP women's tennis (7-10, 2-1 PSAC West) starts an important week as they face divisional opponents Edinboro (2-14, 2-1) and Cal U (5-7, 1-2) Tuesday and Wednesday. The Crimson Hawks went 1-2 over the weekend, including a 6-1 victory over Wilmington (Del.) Saturday.
NOTES
>> These are two of the final three divisional matches on the schedule for the Crimson Hawks, who are one of three teams tied in the standings with a 2-1 league record. IUP also has a makeup date with Slippery Rock (2-0) that has yet to be scheduled.
>> The top three teams in each PSAC division advance to the postseason, with the top seed getting a bye. IUP has been either the first or second seed in the West since 2011 (eight years).
>> Both
Julia Newman and
Mariana Valenzuela had five combined wins during IUP's 3-match weekend. As doubles partners, the two won all three of their matches together at the No. 2 spot while adding two singles wins each.
>> Newman's biggest win was a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Wilmington's Anushka Sathe, the 18th-ranked player in the East Region.
>> Newman leads the team with a 19-13 singles record, including an 8-8 mark at the No. 2 spot.
>> As a team, IUP has a 14-4 singles record and 8-1 doubles record during divisional play against Seton Hill, Clarion and Mercyhurst.
>> Kayta Minchenkova had IUP's biggest win at Mercyhurst, posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Kayla Frost at the No. 1 spot. Minchenkova is 13-12 in singles play this year, including 6-7 in dual matches.
>> This will be the fourth straight year the Crimson Hawks have played Goldey-Beacom, winning each of the previous matches by a combined 20-7.
>> IUP hasn't played Concordia since 2012 and is 3-0 against West Chester in the regular season since 2013.
>> IUP had a 3-match losing streak earlier this season but responded with three straight victories, with two of those coming by shutout.
>> The Crimson Hawks have five remaining regular season matches after this weekend, including three divisional contests against Slippery Rock, Edinboro and Cal U. The SRU match was originally scheduled for March 30 but was postponed due to inclement weather and does not yet have a makeup date.
