Crimson Hawks win short-handed women’s tennis matchup with Edinboro

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP women's tennis cruised to four wins at the top of the singles lineup to close out a 5-1 victory over visiting Edinboro Tuesday at Maple Street Courts.
 
Both teams entered the match short-handed with the Crimson Hawks using four players and Edinboro using five.
 
The win was an important one for the Crimson Hawks as they kept up in the PSAC postseason race, improving to 3-1 in the division while Edinboro fell to 2-2.
 
Katya Minchenkova picked up the win at No. 1, defeating Laura Lopez in the day's top battle by a score of 6-2, 6-2. Julia Newman won 6-3, 7-6 at No. 2, Thais Andreotti won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Maria Magraner won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
 
IUP won both doubles matches contested, with Minchenkova/Andreotti winning 6-0 at No. 1 and Newman/Magraner won 6-1 at No. 2.
 
Up next
This was the first of back-to-back divisional matches for the Crimson Hawks, who head to Cal U to face the Vulcans (5-7, 1-2) Wednesday afternoon.
