CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Despite taking just four players on the trip, the IUP women's tennis team dispatched Cal U by a score of 5-2 Wednesday afternoon at Roadman Park.
IUP's only losses came by forfeits at the bottom two singles spots as the Crimson Hawks swept the top four spots and took the doubles point with a pair of victories.
The Crimson Hawks improved to 4-1 in the division with just one match against Slippery Rock (3-0) left on the schedule. Mercyhurst is currently 2-1 in the PSAC West with Edinboro 2-2 and Seton Hill 1-1 with the top three teams in the standings advancing to the PSAC tournament.
Katya Minchenkova and
Thais Andreotti defeated fall conference runners-up Jo Weisen and Carolin Ganahl 6-3 at the No. 1 spot.
Julia Newman and
Maria Magraner clinched the point with a 6-0 win at No. 2.
Minchenkova and Weisen squared off again in singles play, with IUP earning the point 6-3, 6-3 in a rematch of last fall's quarterfinals. Also winning was Newman 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2, Andreotti 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 and Magraner 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4.

Other than IUP's yet-to-be-rescheduled match with Slippery Rock, the Crimson Hawks have two non-conference dates left on the schedule, including at home against Charleston Saturday at noon.
