INDIANA, Pa. –
Maria Magraner totaled two victories but the IUP women's tennis team fell to Slippery Rock 5-2 Monday afternoon at the Maple Street Courts. SRU clinched a regular season divisional title while the Crimson Hawks locked up the No. 3 seed in next week's conference tournament.
The Crimson Hawks wrap up their divisional schedule with a 4-2 record and is 9-12 overall. Slippery Rock had a 5-0 PSAC West record.
Magraner tallied a three-set 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles and teamed with
Laura Dunarova for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
That doubles win was the only one for the Crimson Hawks with Slippery Rock taking the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2.
Five of the six singles matchups went three sets in what highlighted a good divisional tennis match.
Julia Newman defeated Viola Lugmayr 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 for IUP's other singles win. At No. 1
Katya Minchenkova lost to Lacey Cohen 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in a rematch of the PSAC singles championship from the fall.
Other three-setters came at No. 3 with
Laura Dunarova falling 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and at No. 4 as
Thais Andreotti fell 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks wrap up their regular season schedule Sunday with a final home match against West Virginia State at Maple Street Courts. The PSAC Championships begin next week with IUP heading to No. 2 seed Mercyhurst Tuesday for the quarterfinals.
