SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. –
Luke Hollander hit a bases clearing double in the seventh inning of a 6-5 come-from-behind victory to highlight the Crimson Hawks doubleheader split at Slippery Rock Monday afternoon. The Rock won game one 4-2.
Hollander's hit capped IUP's comeback as the Crimson Hawks trailed Slippery Rock 5-2 after two innings.
IUP scored a run in the fourth on a
Chris Eisel sacrifice fly before its 3-run seventh.
Ben Teplin led off the inning with a single, followed by a
Colin Williams walk and
Nick DiAndreth single to load the bases. Hollander, who entered the game in the fifth inning, followed and ripped an opposite field double to the gap to put the Crimson Hawks on top.
Slippery Rock put the tying runner at second with one out in the bottom half before
Nick Kuhn entered in relief to get the final two batters out and earn the save.
Tyler Adams earned the win on the mound after a dominant relief appearance. Entering in the second, Adams struck out seven batters and didn't give up a hit in 4.2 innings of work. He didn't allow an SRU runner until the sixth inning, and promptly struck out the next three batters.
The victory gave the Crimson Hawks a series victory, their third in the last six years over Slippery Rock.
IUP has hit an end-of-the-season hot streak, winning seven of its last 10 games and is now 15-26 overall and 8-16 in PSAC West play.
Slippery Rock won the opener on the strength of a walk-off 2-run home run in the seventh inning. The Rock got out to an early 2-0 lead but IUP came back to tie the game in the fifth after an SRU error and sac fly by Eisel.
The Rock took advantage of an error to lead off the seventh and two batters later Joe Campagna homered to left to end the game.
