Defending conference champion IUP women's tennis (9-12, 4-2 PSAC West) opens the 2019 PSAC Championships with a quarterfinal matchup at Mercyhurst (12-6, 5-1 PSAC West) Tuesday afternoon. The Crimson Hawks enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed from the Western Division while the Lakers are the No. 2 seed.
NOTES
>> The Crimson Hawks are making their ninth straight and 14th overall PSAC Championships appearance.
>> They won PSAC titles in 2017 and 2018 and finished as the runners-up six straight years from 2011-16.
>> These two teams have met in the PSAC tournament in each of the last five seasons, including championship match wins in 2017 and 2018. IUP is 5-0 in those conference tournament meetings.
>> IUP is 13-2 against Mercyhurst since the 2011-12 season, although the Lakers won 4-3 in Erie this April.
>> IUP doubles teams went a combined 13-4 in divisional play with
Katya Minchenkova and
Thais Andreotti going 4-2 at the top spot.
>> Minchenkova had a 5-1 record in the PSAC West at the No. 1 singles spot.
Julia Newman was also 5-1 in divisional play at No. 2 with the Crimson Hawks going a combined 24-11 in singles matches.
>> Newman leads the team with 41 combined wins this year, going 23-13 in singles play and 18-13 in doubles.
>> IUP's only divisional losses this year came at Mercyhurst (4-3) and to divisional champ Slippery Rock (5-2).
