INDIANA, Pa. –
Brooklyn Kotula allowed just one run in the circle to help the Crimson Hawks to a 3-1 game two victory as they split a key divisional doubleheader with Bloomsburg Saturday afternoon at Podbielski Field.
Kotula scattered six hits in her complete game performance, striking out one without walking a single batter in the win.
Renee Wall and
Jenna Rhue each had two hits and put up back-to-back RBI doubles in the first inning to give the Crimson Hawks an early 2-0 lead. The Huskies added a run in the top of the second but Kotula kept them off the scoreboard the rest of the way, including 1-2-3 innings in the third, fifth and seventh.
IUP didn't see much offensive production with just one more hit until the bottom of the sixth. Wall started off the inning by getting hit by a pitch with Rhue getting an infield single to put a pair on. Four batters later and with two outs,
Bethany Bunner singled home Wall for an insurance run.
The win for IUP kept the early season race close in the PSAC Central, evening its divisional record at 3-3 on the year. Five of the six teams in the division now have records of 4-2 or 3-3.
The win followed a 4-1 loss for the Crimson Hawks in game one of the doubleheader.
Bloomsburg (15-12, 4-2) did most of its damage in the first inning, including a home run on the second pitch of the game. The Huskies added two more runs in the frame and scored once in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead.
IUP started off the sixth with a double by
Kassie Kesneck and advanced to third two batters later on a wild pitch. She scored IUP's only run of the game on a sacrifice fly from Kotula.
