Crimson Hawks split non-divisional softball doubleheader at Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Reigning division player of the week Renee Wall went 4-for-7 with a pair of doubles as IUP softball split a road doubleheader with Seton Hill Tuesday afternoon. The Crimson Hawks took game one 5-4 and lost the nightcap 3-1.

Wall extended her hit streak to 11 games, collecting two hits in each contest. She drove in a run and scored twice.

Lauren Goetz also hit two doubles, going a combined 3-for-7 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

The Crimson Hawks are now 9-20-1 on the year after Tuesday's games while Seton Hill is now 20-12.

Game one
The game was scoreless through four innings before a 2-out double by Goetz scored Kassie Kesneck from first base in the top of the fifth. The lead increased to 2-0 the next inning with an RBI groundout by Rachel Rodriguez scored Wall.

IUP answered a Seton Hill score with very valuable insurance runs, with doubles by Goetz and Wall responsible for scoring two of its three runs in the inning as the Crimson Hawks took a 5-1 lead. A Seton Hill 3-run homer in the bottom half made it a one score game but Cassidy Graham entered in the circle to get the final three outs to secure the victory.

Lauren Zola earned the win, striking out six and giving up four earned runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings. Graham picked up her second save of the season.

Game two
IUP scored in the first with the help of a Seton Hill fielding error. The Griffins came back with two in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead.

After the Crimson Hawks stranded two runners in the second, the game moved along without any base runners until Seton Hill scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. The Griffins opened with a double and ended up loading the bases but IUP's Brooklyn Kotula pitched out of the jam and left three stranded.

IUP left another runner stranded in the sixth and put two runners on with two outs in the seventh, but left the tying runner on first.

Up next
The Crimson Hawks return to divisional play this weekend with Friday road games at Pitt-Johnstown and home games Saturday against Clarion.
