Seton Hill sweeps IUP Baseball on final day of regular season

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The 2019 season came to a close for the IUP baseball team Saturday afternoon as the Crimson Hawks were swept by Seton Hill by scores of 8-3 and 6-0 in Greensburg.

IUP ends its season with a 15-30 overall record, including 8-20 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division. Seton Hill is postseason bound as the fourth seeded team from the PSAC West with a 29-19 overall record and 18-10 in the division.

The Crimson Hawks totaled just three hits in the opener but drew eight walks and led 3-1 entering the bottom of the sixth inning. A Matt Swartz RBI double in the fifth brought in two of IUP's three runs.

Brian Albert started the game and scattered seven hits and struck out five thru five innings of work.

The Griffins got to Albert in the bottom of the sixth, however, opening the frame with back-to-back doubles followed by two straight infield singles to tie the game at 3-3. Seton Hill followed with five more runs on three more hits to take an 8-3 lead and eventually the 5-run win.

IUP couldn't get much offense going in game two, finishing with just three hits while the Griffins scored runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

Mike Klingensmith started IUP's finale, giving up three hits and four earned runs over 3.1 innings.
