Lauren Wolosik awarded 2018-19 IUP Women’s Performance of the Year

INDIANA, Pa. – Senior guard Lauren Wolosik was awarded the 2018-19 IUP Women's Performance of the Year award, announced Wednesday, June 19 by the IUP Athletic Department.

The award is part of the Crimson & Gray Awards, which recognize the top athletes, coaches, teams and performances of the IUP Athletics season. The Awards are in their third year of existence.

Wolosik had a career day in leading No. 1-ranked IUP women's basketball team to a 97-73 win over division-rival Edinboro at the Kovalchick Complex January 21. The senior scored a career-high 33 points and posted her first collegiate double-double with 10 assists to help the Crimson Hawks improve to 15-0 to start the season.

Wolosik shot 14-of-18 from the floor (.778), including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. Her all-around performance also included four steals, three rebounds, a blocked shot, and just one turnover in 30 minutes of action.

She got out to an unbelievably fast start with 16 points in the first quarter alone, going 6-of-8 from the floor with four 3-pointers.

Wolosik's 33-point effort is tied for the eighth best in program history and was just five points shy of IUP's all-time record of 38 originally set by Cindy Davies in 1985.

About the Performance of the Year Award
The IUP Performance of the Year is given each year to the student-athletes who had the most significant or extraordinary performance in a single game, event, or outing. The Performance of the Year Award began in 2017 with the creation of the Crimson & Gray Awards.

About the Crimson & Gray Awards
The Crimson & Gray Awards are in their third year of existence and consist of 18 total categories - nine women, nine men - with top performers and performances from the 2018-19 year eligible.

Awards include: Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, Performance of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Breakthrough Athlete of the Year, Postseason Performer of the Year, Senior of the Year, Team of the Year and Athlete of the Year.

The IUP Sports Information Office collected award nominations from its coaches, with those nominees voted on by a select panel to narrow each category down to finalists. That panel votes again to determine the winners.
