IUP women's volleyball travels to Cal U for the Vulcan Invitational
IUP women's volleyball (0-4, 0-0 PSAC Southwest) looks to break into the win column this weekend at the Vulcan Invitational, hosted by Cal U. The Crimson Hawks open their portion of the tournament Friday afternoon against Davis & Elkins followed by a match against Lake Erie later in the evening. The Hakws close out the tournament Saturday with a matchup against West Liberty followed by Daemen (N.Y).
QUICK HITS
>> This is the second straight year the Crimson Hawks will play in the Vulcan Invitational. Last year they went 2-2 in the tournament with wins over West Virginia Wesleyan (3-1) and Southern New Hampshire (3-0). IUP also played No. 1 Nebraska-Kearney.
>> Maddi Burns had 29 kills and 2.90 kills per set at last year's Vulcan while Jessica Ignace had 31 kills and 10 blocks.
>> The Crimson Hawks are 17-5 all-time against their four-team lineup for this weekend, including 7-1 against Davis & Elkins.
>> Freshman Nicole Peterson led the Crimson Hawks in points (3.77/set) and kills (3.20/set) in last weekend's tournament in Florida. She had 23 kills in the five-set loss to Florida Southern and 16 in four sets against Valdosta State.
>> Freshman Brooke Little also stood out offensively with 29 kills in four matches, including 15 kills and a .538 hitting percentage against Florida Southern.
>> IUP finished its Florida trip with a higher kills per set rate then its opponents (8.87-8.67) but committed 85 hitting errors over the four matches.
>> Peterson and Jaden Fuller each had seven total blocks while Alyssa Kimmel and Liv Burns combined to average 4.97 digs per set.
