LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The IUP women's soccer team (2-1-0, 1-1-0 PSAC West) came up just short on the road Saturday against the Edinboro Fighting Scots (1-2-0, 1-0-0, PSAC West) falling by a score of 2-1 at Sox Harrison Stadium. The loss was the first of the season for the Crimson Hawks, and was the first PSAC west win of the year for the Fighting Scots.
How it Happened
>> The Crimson Hawks got off to a fast start to the game by registering the first shot on goal in the 4

Mya Hilliard's shot tested Anna Voelker in the Edinboro net, but Volker proved to be up to challenge, making the save.
>> The Fighting Scots responded to the early IUP pressure by stepping up a gear and peppering the IUP goal with shots. IUP goalkeeper Madeiline Smakulski was forced into a series of saves over the next 15 minutes to keep the Crimson Hawks level.
>> Unfortunately, the Fighting Scots were able to make their pressure pay off in the 22
nd minute, taking the lead in the game thanks to a goal by Brittnie Spithaler.
>> Edinboro continued to exert pressure on Smakulski and the rest of the IUP defense as the half wore on, forcing Smakulski to make several more saves.
>> The Fighting Scots would double their lead just before halftime via a penalty kick in the 40
th minute.
>> The Crimson Hawks responded to the halftime deficit by upping the tempo at the start of the second half. Freshman forwardÂ
DeAvion Anderson generated the first real chance for either side in that half when she put her shot just wide of the Endboro net in the 50
th minute.
>> Unlike the first half, the Crimson Hawks were able to maintain and build on their early pressure, with forwards
Samantha Joyce and
Mahogany Willis calling Edinboro goalkeeper Voelker into action in the 70
th and 74
th minutes.
>> IUP would get the reward for their second half performance in the 87
th minute when
Mahogany Willis found the back of the net for the Crimson Hawks to cut the deficit to one.
>> Willis's goal proved to be just a little too late though, as the Crimson Hawks were unable to find an equalizer in the final few minutes of the game.
