MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Several members of the IUP women's tennis team advanced after the first day of action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Region Championships Saturday at Millersville University.
Katya Minchenkova received a first round bye and advanced to the third round with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Massaro from West Chester. She has a third round matchup with Mercyhurst's Ostojic Sunday.
Minchenkova was also part of three IUP doubles teams that advanced to the quarterfinals. She teamed with
Idoia Huerta for an 8-2 second round victory over a pair from West Virginia State.
Maria Magraner and
Thais Andreotti won a pair of matches and will take on Lugmayer/Page from Slippery Rock, the top-seeded doubles team at ITAs. Joanna Stalka and
Mariana Valenzuela also won a pair of matches and are in the quarterfinals against West Virginia State's Hensley and Malo.
Valenzuela also advanced to the third round of the B Singles Bracket after defeating West Virginia State's Moore 6-0, 6-3.
