WEEKLY NOTES

CRIMSON HAWKS OPEN SEASON WITH HOME MATCH AGAINST GLENVILLE STATE
The IUP women's soccer team (0-0-0, 0-0-0 PSAC) will open their 2019 season with a home match against non-conference opponents Glenville State College (0-0-0, 0-0-0, MEC) of the Mountain East Conference. The Crimson Hawks will be looking to defend their home turf when they take on the Lady Pioneers on Saturday afternoon.

On the Pitch
>> Saturday's match will provide the first test of the regular season for IUP following two exhibition matches against Mount Aloysius College and Davis & Elkins College during preseason.
>> The Crimson Hawks return 19 players from last year's squad which finished the year with a record of 9-8-1 overall, and a conference record of 7-8-1.
>> Head Coach Adel Heder is entering his 19th season in charge of the Crimson Hawks, and is the winningest coach in program history with a 202-122-23 (.615) overall record. Heder earned is 200th career win in charge of IUP last season after defeating Clarion on October 9th.

Last Time Out
>> The Crimson Hawks will be hoping for a repeat of the result from last season's meeting between the two teams, which saw seven different Crimson Hawks find the back of the net en route to a 7-0 victory at Glenville State.
>> IUP returns six members of their starting lineup from last year's meeting in West Virginia.
>> Four members of the current women's soccer roster found the back of the net in last year's matchup, with Mahogany Willis, McKenna Keffel, Gabrielle DeSousa, and Kelly Kingerski all having scored last year.
>> Sophomore Goalkeeper Maria Tunney got the start in net in last year's game earning the shutout victory.

Series History
>> IUP leads the all-time series 1-0, with last year's game between the two sides being the first meeting between the two programs.

Fantastic Forwards
>> The Crimson Hawks will be looking at two key returners to help carry the offensive burden this year. Sophomore forward Mahogany Willis will be looking to pick up where she left off last season at the Crimson Hawks leading scorer. Willis scored 14 goals last year leading both IUP and all freshmen in the PSAC with that total. Willis got off to a fat start last season by scoring the game-winning goal in overtime in the Crimson Hawks' opener against Pitt-Johnston and will be looking to replicate that success on Saturday. IUP will also welcome the return of senior forward McKenna Keffel who finished second on the team in scoring in her first two years at IUP before having her season cut short last year due to injury.

Starting Off on the Right Foot
>> The Crimson Hawks have enjoyed a very successful to start to their season over the past several years, having gone 6-2-1 in season openers since 2010. IUP is 3-0 when facing non-conference opponents in season opening matches during that span.

Coaches
>> IUP: Adel Heder (19th year; 202-122-23)
>> Glenville State: (3rd year; 3-21-2)

Opponents
>> The Lady Pioneers are entering their second season as a full member of the NCAA and the MEC.
>> Last year the Lady Pioneers endured a difficult start to their NCAA tenure going 0-18 overall, while scoring a total of four goals.
