GREENSBURG, Pa. – IUP women's tennis bounced back with a convincing 7-0 over Seton Hill in its division-opener Saturday night.
Responding to its first dual loss of the season, the Crimson Hawks took two of the three doubles matches before sweeping singles play with the Griffins.
IUP improved to 3-1 overall with the win and 1-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division play.
Doubles
Joanna Stralka and
Mariana Valenzuela picked up the first doubles win at No. 2 with a 6-0 victory.
Julia Newman and
Thais Andreotti followed with a 6-3 win at No. 3 to clinch the doubles point before
Katya Minchenkova and
Idoia Huerta dropped a 7-5 match at No. 1.
Singles
Laura Dunarova won IUP's first singles match, 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.
Stralka followed with an equally impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 1 as she made her spring debut.
Andretti officially clinched the match at the No. 4 singles spot by winning 6-1, 6-1.
Other singles wins included Minchenkova with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-7 rally at No. 2, Huerta 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, and Newman 7-5, 6-0 at No. 5.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks are in action twice next weekend in Ohio, facing Oberlin Saturday and Case Western Reserve Sunday.
