ROME, Ga. - Senior
Karolin Kirchtag hit another historical milestone for the IUP women's tennis program Friday as she won in the singles draw on the second day of the 2021 ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center.
Already part of a group of players making the program's first appearance at the ITAs, Kirchtag's singles win was the first for an IUP player.
Kirchtag took down Taylor Leslie of Dallas Baptist by a score of 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the West bracket. The win evened her singles record this weekend at 1-1 after she fell during first round play on Thursday.
She will now face Ashley Penshorn of Saint Mary's in the bracket's semifinals at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
Kirchtag also paired with
Katy Graydon in the West doubles bracket, falling to a team from Newberry by the score of 6-4, 6-3. Also playing Friday was
Natasha Munday and
Joanna Stralka, who lost to Ferris State's top pairing by a score of 6-1, 6-3.
Both IUP doubles pairs drop to the South bracket where they have semifinal matches scheduled Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
