ROME, Ga. - IUP's doubles pair of
Natasha Munday and
Joanna Stralka won as the Crimson Hawks competed during their final day of action at the 2021 ITA Cup at the Rome Tennis Center.
Munday and Stralka defeated Laura Arce Vieyra and Gabriela Jaccikova of Augustana by a score of 6-2, 7-6 (3) in the 'South' bracket. The win marked the first for an IUP doubles team at the ITA individual championships in program history. It followed the historical singles win by
Karolin Kirchtag on Friday.
Kirchtag and
Katy Graydon also competed, falling to Angelo State's Ayda Guler and Ramitha Irrinki 3-6, 7-5, 10-3.
Kirchtag also wrapped up her singles competition with a 6-4, 6-0 loss to Ashley Penshorn of St. Mary's.
The appearance at the ITA Cup - the Division II singles and doubles championship - was the first for the IUP women's tennis program. The wins by Kirchtag (singles) and Munday/Stralka (doubles) acted as the first wins at this level.

This ends a highly successful fall competition season for the Crimson Hawks, who boast the ITA Atlantic Region and PSAC singles champion (Kirchtag) and the regional and conference doubles champs (Kirchtag/Graydon). IUP will return in the spring with its team dual match season.
