Scardina's penalty kick lifts Crimson Hawks to 1-0 win over Cal U

INDIANA, Pa. - Hannah Scardina scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 59th minute to lift IUP women's soccer to a 1-0 conference win over Cal U Saturday afternoon at South Campus Field. 

Scardina capitalized on the the Vulcans' miscue, putting the ball in the lower right corner as the Cal U goalie went the opposite way.

The win was the fourth in the last five games for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 6-3-1 overall and 5-3-1 in conference play. Their 16 points are fifth in the PSAC West, trailing fourth place Gannon by one, third place Edinboro by two, and second place Mercyhurst by three in a tight race. 

IUP goalie Samantha Gildner had three saves and posted her fourth shutout of the season.

The Crimson Hawks are in action again on Wednesday as they look to close the gap in the league standings with a match at Edinboro.
