Hawks need victories in final week of regular season

INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's soccer team heads into the final week of the regular season needing at least one victory and a little help as they look to make a push for the final divisional spot in the upcoming 2021 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.

The Crimson Hawks will host Mercyhurst Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. at South Campus before wrapping up the regular season on the road against Clarion Saturday at 5 p.m.

Mercyhurst has already locked up a postseason spot and is currently third in the divisional standings with 31 points at 10-3-1. Clarion is tied for seventh in the division with 13 points at 4-9-1.

The Hawks have 19 points at 6-7-1 and are two points back of Edinboro (21) entering the week.

Last time out
>> The Crimson Hawks' losing streak extended to four games after falling to Pitt-Johnstown (2-1) and Seton Hill (1-0) last week.

Notes
>> IUP will need at least one victory this week and two Edinboro losses to earn a spot in the PSAC tournament. If Boro wins one of its final two matches, IUP will need to defeat both Mercyhurst and Clarion to make up the difference.
>> Edinboro will host Pitt-Johnstown (14 points) on Wednesday night and play at Seton Hill (13 points) on Saturday to wrap up its regular season.
>> IUP is looking for its 16th all-time PSAC tournament appearance. The Hawks advanced to the postseason seven times last decade and have berths in three of the last four (2016, 2017, 2019). IUP's last PSAC tournament championship was 2004.
>> The Hawks split their previous meetings with Mercyhurst (L, 3-1) and Clarion (W, 2-1).
>> Clarion is 16th in the PSAC in goals allowed (2.20/game) and scoring margin (-1.27).
>> Mercyhurst goalie Maddie Elbro is tied for second in the PSAC with seven shutouts in 16 games played. Her goals against average is fourth in the PSAC at .725.
>> IUP sophomore Hannah Scardina is tied for fourth in the conference with nine goals this year. Four of those have been game-winners.
