INDIANA, Pa. - Eleven Crimson Hawks saw the scoring column with five posting double-figure outings as the 12th-ranked IUP women's basketball team goes into Thanksgiving break after an 82-58 win over Salem Wednesday at the Kovalchick Complex.
The Crimson Hawks used a huge third quarter to run their season-opening win streak to five games. IUP held onto a slim lead at 36-32 at the break before exploding for 27 third quarter points to take a 22-point lead into the final 10 minutes. IUP connected on 10-of-17 from the floor and forced six Salem turnovers in the quarter, using an 18-2 run to increase its lead to 20.Â
Freshman forward
Gina Adams led the way with 10 points on 4-4 field goals and 2-2 free throws in the third quarter alone. Senior guard
Courtney Alexander also knocked down a pair of 3-pointers while senior forward
Maura D'Anna added six points in the quarter.Â
The Hawks locked down Salem defensively, as the Tigers shot just 8-29 from the field with just one 3-pointer in the second half. Salem used seven 3-pointers in the game's first 20 minutes to shock the Hawks and stay in the game, even holding a 17-16 lead after the first quarter.
The Hawks shot 57.7 percent (15-26) from the field in the first half and had their best showing at the foul line this season, converting 16-20. IUP also outrebounded Salem 46-to-30.
Who stood out
Adams and D'Anna were two of three players to scored a team-best 12 points on the afternoon. Adams finished 5-8 from the field and 2-2 from the foul line, adding seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in 26 minutes.Â
D'Anna shot 6-9 from the field, grabbed six boards and had a steal and a block in 27 minutes of action. Freshman guard
Kiera Baughman also scored 12 points in 15 minutes off the bench, going 5-6 from the foul line.
Senior guard
Justina Mascaro scored 11 points on 5-10 shooting in 25 minutes and Alexander finished with 10 points in 27 minutes.Â
Notes
The Crimson Hawks entered the game ranked No. 12 in the WBCA Top 25 and No. 11 in the D2SIDA Media Top 25 polls … IUP improved to 5-0 this year at home and is 50-5 in Indiana since the 2017-18 season ... The 58 points by Salem is the most by an IUP opponent this season.

The Crimson Hawks hit the road for the first time of the season on Sunday when they head to Columbus to face Ohio Dominican. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. This marks IUP's return to the same campus and gym that hosted the 2019 NCAA Division II Elite Eight, in which the Hawks advanced to the national semifinals.
