INDIANA, Pa. - IUP women's lacrosse rebounded from a slow start but couldn't rally past Grand Valley State as the Crimson Hawks fell to the No. 11 Lakers 14-8 Friday afternoon at Miller Stadium.
It was the 2021 season opener for IUP. Grand Valley State improved to 3-0 with the win.
Who stood out
>> Sophomore
Jordan Kulp had a team-high four points on two goals and two assists. She also picked up three ground balls and caused one turnover.
>> Senior
Kayte Zeiler also tallied two goals, grabbing a team-high five draw controls.

Chantal Jimenez, one of two true freshman starters for IUP, tallied her first career goal on a free position. She also had three ground ball pickups, a caused turnovers and a draw control.
>> Classmate
Sarah Reustle grabbed four draw controls and two ground balls.
How it happened
Grand Valley looked dominant early with a pair of goals in the early minutes and took a 3-1 lead at the 21:46 mark.
IUP tied things up with goals from
Chloe Borland and Kulp just moments apart, but the Lakers followed with four straight to go up 7-3. Jimenez and freshman
Emily Elliott each scored to close the gap but GVSU took an 8-5 lead into half with a goal as time expired.
Kulp's early second half goal made it 9-6, but that's the closest IUP would get as the Lakers scored five of the next six and came out with the win.

It's a quick turnaround for the Hawks as they host Slippery Rock in the conference opener Sunday. Game time is set for noon at Miller Stadium
