Crimson Hawks fall to Seton Hill in heartbreaker

INDIANA, Pa. - Senior Kayte Zeiler and freshman Chantal Jimenez each scored three goals and helped lead a second half comeback that fell short in the final minutes, as the IUP women's lacrosse team lost to visiting Seton Hill 12-11 Wednesday afternoon at Miller Stadium. 

Zeiler's three goals all came in the second half with the Crimson Hawks rallying from a three-goal deficit. Zeiler's third goal of the contest tied the score at 11-11 with just over 5 minutes left but Seton Hill scored one minute later and held on for the victory.

IUP dropped to 1-2 on the year, including 1-1 in PSAC play with the loss. Seton Hill is 2-0 and 1-0. 

Who stood out
>> Sophomore Jordan Kulp had four points on two goals and two assists. 
>> Senior Kayte Zeiler scored three goals.
>> Freshman Chantal Jimenez scored three goals, had a team-best seven draw controls, had two caused turnovers and two ground balls.
>> Junior Katie Hibinger led IUP with four ground balls, three caused turnovers, and had one goal. 
>> Senior goalie Lauren Piecknick posted a career-high 17 saves.

How it happened
Seton Hill grabbed a 5-2 lead midway through the first half and led by three for most of the first 30 minutes. IUP cut its deficit to two just before the half with a goal by Leah Hunter, as the Hawks trailed 7-5 at the break.

The scoring went back and forth in the second half until the Hawks used a 3-0 run over an 8:07 time span to tie the game at 11-11. Zeiler started the run with a goal at 13:20, while Hibinger scored at 7:07 and Zeiler had the game-tying goal with 5:13 to go. 

After Seton Hill regained the lead one minute later, IUP had chances to tie the game but turned the ball over twice and saw its only shot saved. 

Up next
The Crimson Hawks are back in action Saturday when they host Lock Haven at Miller Stadium.
