INDIANA, Pa. – Seton Hill showed why it's one of the top teams in the country as the IUP baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the 11th-ranked Griffins Saturday afternoon at Dougherty Field.
Seton Hill won by scores of 7-1 and 14-0, wrapping up a four-game sweep of the weekend series. IUP falls to 1-11 overall and 0-4 in the PSAC West while the Griffins improve to 12-0 and 4-0.
Harrison Pontoli saw his hit streak extend, and then end all on the same day. The sophomore shortstop went 2-4 in game one, including a double to lead off the bottom of the first inning, extending his hit streak to 11 games. Then in the nightcap he finished 0-2 after getting removed in the fourth inning due to health and safety concerns.
Pontoli's 11-game hit streak was the longest by an IUP player since
Chris Eisel finished the 2018 season on a 13-game hit streak.
Nick Hess gave IUP its only offense, hitting a solo home run to right center to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. It was Hess' first homer of the season.
