INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP women's tennis team ran its streak to four straight wins Sunday as the Crimson Hawks defeated Salem 6-1 at the Maple Street Courts.
The PSAC West regular season champs improved to 11-3 overall with the victory, its second of the weekend. Salem, which entered ranked seventh in the Atlantic Region by the ITA, dropped to 9-4.
The Crimson Hawks also improved to 5-1 on the year against teams ranked in the top-10 of the region according to the ITA.Â
The doubles point went to IUP as the Hawks took the top two doubles spots.
Idoia Huerta and
Lydia Vlachou ran their win streak to 10 straight with a 7-6 (7-2) win at the top spot.
Karolin Kirchtag and
Katy Graydon won at two by a score of 6-3, also their 10th straight victory.
IUP won the first, third and fourth singles spots over shorthanded Salem, which gave up five and six by forfeit. Kirchtag easily defeated Ana Kunic 6-3, 6-1 at the top spot. Kunic finished last year's shortened season as the third-ranked player in the region.
Graydon took her opponent to three sets, winning by a score of 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 at three, and Vlachou won at four by a 6-2, 6-2 score.Â
Huerta matched up against Iryna Rusyn, the 48th-ranked player in Division II, and took her to three sets. Huerta fell 6-3, 4-6, 10-8.Â
