EDINBORO, Pa. - Kaitlyn Beers tied the IUP softball program's career home run record of 28, highlighting the Crimson Hawks' doubleheader split at Edinboro Sunday afternoon.
IUP dropped the first game of the day by a score of 9-2 but rallied for a 6-1 weather-shortened victory in the nightcap.
The Crimson Hawks took three in the four-game weekend series with Edinboro and is now 16-10 overall and 15-9 in PSAC West play. Edinboro is 9-13 and 9-13.

Game one
IUP struck first as
Margret Russo drove in the game's first run with a RBI single in the second. The Crimson Hawks went up 2-0 in the fifth as a double by Beers scored Wall.
Sophomore pitcher
Hope Jones pitched masterfully through four innings, taking a perfect game into the fifth. The perfect game ended with a one out walk in the fifth and then the Fighting Scots broke up the no-no with two down, but Jones and the Hawks still took a 2-0 lead into the sixth inning.
Edinboro then put together a huge bottom half, exploding for nine runs on eight hits, a walk, and two IUP errors to pick up the victory.
Game two
Again the Hawks grabbed the first lead, scoring three runs in the first inning.
Haleigh Zimmerman got the scoring started, driving in
Jenna Rhue and Beers with a double. She then scored on a single by
Jacey Henderson.
IUP went on top 5-0 in the fifth with a two-run double off the bat of Wall. Beers hit her record-tying home run to lead off the sixth inning as the rains came.
Edinboro broke up the shutout with a homer of its own in the bottom half, getting in a run before the game was called.
Up next
The Crimson Hawks will pay for the third straight day as they host Millersville in a cross-divisional doubleheader Monday afternoon at Podbielski Field.
