IUP Women's Tennis opens three-match home stand this weekend

INDIANA, Pa. – The IUP women's tennis team will play in three home matches over the next five days, starting Saturday against non-conference foe West Virginia State. The Crimson Hawks also have conference matches against Mercyhurst Tuesday and Cal U Wednesday. 

IUP enters the weekend with an overall record of 4-2 and lead the PSAC West with a 3-0 divisional record. West Virginia State is 3-4 overall, Mercyhurst is 2-5 (1-1) and Cal U is 0-4 (0-2).

>> The Crimson Hawks have won three straight matches, defeating Slippery Rock 4-3, Indiana University East 5-2 and Clarion 6-1.

>> Freshman Katy Graydon is the reigning PSAC West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, which was announced Monday. Graydon went a combined 4-0 over the weekend, including a 6-2, 6-2 win over former PSAC singles champion Lacey Cohen of Slippery Rock.
>> Graydon leads the team with 9 combined wins, including a 5-1 record in singles play. She's played the last two matches at the No. 2 spot in the lineup, going 2-0.
>> Junior Idoia Huerta has won her last two matches after moving up to the No. 1 spot in the singles lineup against Indiana University East. 
>> Huerta and freshman Lydia Vlachou have settled into IUP's No. 1 doubles pairing, posting a 4-1 record at that spot over the team's last five matches.
