INDIANA, Pa. - The IUP women's tennis team defeated West Liberty by a score of 6-1 at Maple Street Courts Tuesday afternoon. The match was originally scheduled for Wednesday but was moved up one day due to poor forecasted weather conditions.
This was IUP's final regular season home match and its last against regional competition prior to the start of postseason next week.
IUP improved to 12-3 on the year with its fifth straight win. West Liberty fell to 6-5. The Hilltoppers were ranked fifth in the Atlantic Region by the ITA in its most recent poll, which was back on March 23.
The Hawks swept all three doubles matches to earn the easy first point.
Idoia Huerta and
Lydia Vlachou at No. 1 and
Karolin Kirchtag and
Katy Graydon at No. 2 each won by 6-1 scores.
Laura Dunarova and
Abby Jones won 6-4 at No. 3.
Kirchtag picked up a hard fought three-set win at the top singles spot, defeating Gemma Cliffe 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-6. Graydon won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3, Vlachou won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4, Dunarova won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Jones won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
