ERIE, Pa. - The IUP women's lacrosse team used a 4-0 second half run to overcome a halftime deficit en route to a 12-8 win over Gannon Monday night at McConnell Family Stadium.
The win opened up an important final week of the regular season for the Crimson Hawks, who are fighting for a postseason spot. IUP improved to 5-4 overall and is still third in the PSAC West standings with a 5-3 division record.
Who stood out
Fr.
Sarah Reustle had team-bests of three goals and four points, adding three draw controls and a draw control.
Fr.
Chantal Jimenez scored two goals, had six draw controls, a caused turnover and a ground ball.
Sr.
Shannon Reape picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.
How it happened
The Crimson Hawks dominated early, as
Sarah Reustle scored twice in the first four minutes, taking a 4-1 lead at the midway point. Gannon rallied to tie the game twice before taking a 7-6 lead into halftime on a goal with 1:15 on the clock.
IUP opened the second half with those four straight goals, with Reustle,
Chantal Jimenez,
Jordan Kulp and
Kayte Zeiler scoring to make it a 10-7 game with 10 minutes to play. IUP took advantage of Gannon miscues as two of those goals came on woman-up situations.
Gannon made it a two-game game with six minutes left, but scores by Kulp and Jimenez in the last three minutes sealed the victory.
Up next
IUP travels back to Erie Wednesday with a matchup against Mercyhurst, currently second in the divisional standings.
