IUP Women's Tennis heads to Charleston for regional showdown

INDIANA, Pa. – Riding a six-match win streak, the IUP women's tennis team faces their biggest regional challenge this spring as the Crimson Hawks head to West Virginia to take on Charleston this Saturday. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.

The Crimson Hawks enter with a 7-2 overall record, including a 5-0 mark in the PSAC West. Charleston is 10-2 overall and has a 4-0 record in the Mountain East. 

Charleston enters as the No. 1-ranked team in the latest ITA Atlantic Region rankings while IUP is No. 2.

>> Charleston has a 5-0 record against regionally-ranked squads, defeating No. 3 Slippery Rock (5-2), No. 5 West Liberty (6-1), No. 7 Salem (5-2), No. 8 Bluefield State (6-1), and No. 9 Fairmont State (7-0).
>> IUP has a 9-1 record against Charleston since the 2010-11 season, posting nine straight victories.
>> Charleston won the last meeting by a score of 5-2 in April 2019 at the Maple Street Courts. 
>> Freshman Katy Graydon boasts an eight-match win streak in singles play, with six of those wins coming at the third spot and two more wins coming at two. 
>> Graydon has also won five straight doubles matches with junior Karolin Kirchtag. Altogether, Graydon leads IUP with a 15-3 combined record.
>> Junior Idoia Huerta and freshman Lydia Vlachou also have a five-match win streak in doubles play and are 7-1 together.
