CLARION, Pa. - Sean Furlong struck out six and didn't give up an earned run over five innings, but his performance on the mound was to no avail as the IUP baseball team lost to Clarion 1-0 in the opening game of a doubleheader Sunday at Memorial Stadium. The Crimson Hawks dropped game two by a score of 5-2.
IUP pitchers gave up just three earned runs in the doubleheader, the best two-game performance of the season. The five hurlers also combined for 13 strikeouts in 12.0 innings pitched.
Furlong scattered three hits and walked one during his game one start, giving up the only run of the game in the first after an error earlier in the inning.
Jayson Wilbur pitched a scoreless final inning in relief of Furlong.
In game two, starter
Ian Logue gave up two earned runs in three innings before giving way to
Ben Hudock in the fourth. Hudock struck out four and allowed one earned run over 2.2 innings before
Austin Vigliotti tossed the final out.
