MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – A successful day two of the ITA Atlantic Region Championships is in the books for the IUP women's tennis team. Sunday saw two IUP singles players advance to the championship bracket semifinal round while two doubles pairings moved on to the title match.
 
In doubles, it will be an all-IUP championship on Monday as Karolin Kirchtag and Katy Graydon will battle Natasha Munday and Joanna Stralka.
 
Munday and Stralka, the fourth seeded doubles pairing, defeated Lif and Balakrishnan of Charleston in Sunday's quarterfinals by a score of 8-2 before taking down top-seed Page and Gonzalez of Slippery Rock 8-5.
 
On the other side of the bracket, Kirchtag and Graydon easily defeated Singh and Tiscornia of Charleston 8-1, then moved onto the title match with a 9-7 win over teammates and second seeded Idoia Huerta and Lydia Vlachou in the semis.
 
In the singles bracket, Kirchtag won a pair of matches to move into the semifinals. She opened with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Balancho of Charleston and then took down top-seed Singh of Charleston by a score of 6-2, 6-3.
 
She will play Graydon, who defeated seventh-seeded Gonzalez of Slippery Rock 6-1, 6-4 then beat Drouin of Charleston 6-1, 6-3.
 
Stralka, the second seed in the championship bracket, was forced to retire in the quarterfinal round due to injury. Munday, Huerta, and Vlachou all bowed out in the third round.
 
In the B draw, Laura Dunarova lost in three sets in the quarterfinal round 6-7 (4), 6-0, 10-8. Her and teammate Abby Jones also lost in the quarters of the doubles bracket by a score of 8-5.
 
Up next
The doubles final is set for Monday at 9 a.m. with the singles semis set to start at 10:30 a.m. The singles final is scheduled for 1 p.m.
