Kirchtag claims PSAC singles championship

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – IUP women's tennis standout Karolin Kirchtag captured the PSAC singles championship on Monday.
 
Kirchtag, who won both the singles and doubles titles last season, secures her fifth total PSAC Championship. She capped the tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph in the final against Kayla Dean from Mercyhurst.
 
For Kirchtag, she came in as the second seed to Dean, beating Maria Ojeda (Millersville), 6-6, 6-3. She followed that with a victory over Ava Lewis (Kutztown) (6-1, 6-1). In the quarterfinals, she defeated Roisin Murphy (Mercyhurst), 7-5, 6-3.
 
In the semifinal round, Kirchtag played a familiar foe in Gabriela Del Val Del Toro (Slippery Rock) (6-2, 7-5). She then played Dean in the finals, coming away victorious.
 
Kirchtag and her doubles partner, Natalie Kmoskova, advanced to the semifinals.
