EDINBORO, Pa. – The 15th-ranked IUP football team racked up over 600 yards of total offense in a resounding 41-0 road victory against Edinboro on Saturday afternoon at a gusty Sox Harrison Stadium.
IUP (6-0, 4-0) collected its first shutout since 2019, while the 607 yards of total offense are tied for 10th in program history for a single game. The Crimson Hawks were efficient in all phases of the game as graduate QB
Mak Sexton went 16-of-18 through the air with 338 yards and three passing touchdowns.
Two of those touchdown passes went to
Duane Brown, who made seven catches for 103 yards.
Hilton Ridley made two grabs for 70 yards and a score, while
Cole Laney hauled in two passes for 73 yards. Both Ridley and Laney had pass receptions for over 60 yards with 10 different Crimson Hawks recording a catch in the contest.
Connor Kelly and
Gregory Moore II led the defensive effort for IUP with six tackles each, while IUP added two more interceptions, including another one for
Darius Bruce.
Dayjure Stewart was one of three IUP rushers with a touchdown as
Adam Houser and
Parker Gregg added scores on the ground.
The Crimson Hawks rolled to a 35-0 lead at the half, marking their most points in an opening half since last October against Clarion. It all added up to the 12th consecutive road win for IUP, avenging its last loss, which came against Edinboro last season at Miller Stadium.
The Crimson Hawks held Edinboro to just 42 passing yards on the day and 180 for the game.
Raunya Mitchell made four tackles, 1.5 TFLs and grabbed an interception for the IUP defense as part of an impressive effort.
IUP missed a field goal on its initial drive, which spanned 69 yards into the Edinboro redzone. From there, the Crimson Hawks found the endzone on each of their next five drives. IUP took a knee before heading into the half, snapping a stretch of five consecutive touchdown drives.
The Crimson Hawks capitalized once again on their opening drive of the second half, capping off a nine-play series for a 41-0 lead in the third quarter.
IUP forced a three and out on the opening Edinboro possession, working the ball inside the Fighting Scots 20 yard line with a 37-yard pitch and catch from Sexton to
Isaiah Houser.
Nick Andrasi pushed a 23-yard attempt wide.
Edinboro worked the ball near midfield on its ensuing possession before punting the ball away. On second down, Sexton found Laney over the middle for a 61-yard gain down to the Edinboro 13. Two plays later, Ridley made a touchdown grab from 10 yards out for a 7-0 IUP lead.
Two penalties derailed the next Edinboro series, giving IUP the ball back near midfield with 3:08 remaining in the opening quarter. Consecutive completions to Brown netted 36 yards before Stewart doubled the IUP lead two plays later with a 16-yard jaunt, pushing the visitors in front 13-0.
Brown was active in the Crimson Hawks first drive of the second quarter, making three catches for 54 yards, capped by a 19-yard touchdown reception. A two-point conversion run from A. Houser expanded the IUP lead to 21-0.
IUP forced Edinboro into yet another three and out before driving 45 yards in 11 plays for a 29-0 advantage. Bruce stepped in for a pass breakup on third down, forcing a Fighting Scot punt with just over 2:20 left in the half. IUP needed just two plays to travel 69 yards, beginning with a 60-yard grab by Ridley before Brown capped the possession with a nine-yard touchdown reception.
Adam Houser capped off the final scoring drive of the afternoon, finding the endzone from 18 yards out in the third quarter and pushing IUP ahead 41-0.
Naszhir Taylor broke up a fourth-down passing attempt, preserving the IUP shutout on the next series. The Crimson Hawks rode the ground game throughout much of the second half, churning the clock for the victory.
