GREENSBURG, Pa. – IUP women's soccer traded chances throughout the afternoon with Seton Hill in a scoreless tie on Saturday afternoon.
IUP (5-4-8, 4-4-8) needed a victory to keep its slim postseason hopes alive, but will settle just on the outside of playoff positioning in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western division standings.
Aislinn Meaney attempted four of the 10 IUP shot attempts on the day, while Vanessa Berlin matched a season-high eight saves. Seton Hill (8-3-7, 6-3-7) secured a spot in the conference tournament with a point on Saturday.
Emma Rain had three shots for the Griffins and goalkeeper Grace Kenyon notched six saves.
"We are obviously disappointed we could not keep our playoff hopes alive with a win today," IUP head coach Noreen Herlihy said. "Our players gave it all they had this season and the seniors led by example."
Kenyon and Berlin traded saves early on before IUP began owning possession.
Sami Nemeth and
Hannah Scardina each has scoring chances for the Crimson Hawks within the initial 12 minutes of the contest.
Each side continued going back and forth with the first half wining down. Meaney pushed a chance high in the 44th minute as the teams went into the intermission scoreless.
Both sides earned corner kicks in the early stages of the second half.
Alayna Ryan directed a header on goal and into the arms of Kenyon in the 75th minute. The Griffins had a late push with five shots in about seven minutes.
Berlin grabbed two saves in the final five minutes of the matchup to keep the Griffins off the scoreboard.
"While we will miss our seniors, it's my hope that they underclassmen can take inspiration from their presence," Herlihy continued. "We finished a seven-game stretch without a regulation loss, and I look at that as a positive we can take into next season!"
