No. 7 Hawks run win streak to seven with 29-point win in Erie

ERIE, Pa. - Junior guard Dave Morris scored 19 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the No. 7-ranked IUP men's basketball team to a 77-48 win over Gannon at the Hammermill Center Saturday afternoon.

The win was the seventh straight for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 22-2 overall and kept their one-game lead in the PSAC West with a 16-2 conference record. Gannon fell to 12-9 and 9-8.

It was IUP's second win over Gannon in the last two weeks as the Hawks swept the regular season series with a scoring margin of +31.0.

How it happened
With the exception of 15 seconds where the game was tied at 2-2 early, the Crimson Hawks led the entire way, going on top 14-8 on a 3-pointer by sophomore forward Ethan Porterfield

IUP later used a 12-2 run to grab a 29-15 lead with less than four minutes left in the half. The Hawks showed balance as five different players scored on the run, with Morris and Porterfield each knocking down 3-pointers. A layup by freshman guard Dallis Dillard gave IUP a 35-21 lead at the break.

The lead remained steady into the second half as another 3-pointer by Morris put the Hawks on top by 22 at 49-27 with 13:46 left. IUP then really opened the game up, scoring 14 points over a 4:16 span to take its biggest lead of the game at 34 points.

The Hawks held Gannon to 34.0 percent (17-of-50) shooting, including just 1-of-13 from 3-point range. IUP also held a 47-to-34 advantage on the glass and forced the Golden Knights into 14 turnovers.

Who stood out
Morris' 16 rebounds here by far a career-high and the most by an IUP player this season. In addition to his 19 points and 16 boards, he added five assists, a block and a steal in 36 minutes. He made four 3-pointers and went 5-of-6 at the foul line.

Porterfield finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 26 minutes. Junior guard Armoni Foster added 11 points and eight assists.
