Another OT thriller: Crimson Hawks rally to take down Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - For the second straight game the IUP women's lacrosse team rallied to win on the road in overtime, as the Crimson Hawks defeated Lock Haven 13-12 Saturday afternoon.

Down 10-5 in the third quarter, the Hawks scored four straight and seven of the last nine regulation goals to send the game to OT. Chloe Borland then scored the game-winner just 1:18 into extra time.

IUP improves to 4-2 on the year and a perfect 2-0 in PSAC West play with the win. The Hawks are the only 2-0 squad in the division.

The game was tied up 3-3 after the first quarter of play but Lock Haven owned the second quarter to take a 7-5 lead at halftime. The Bald Eagles (4-2, 1-1) took that momentum into the third quarter, scoring three straight goals to take a 10-5 lead.

Emme Mass stopped the run with a goal at the 4:57 mark of the third, and then assisted on a goal by Demi Hecker just 1:28 later. A goal by Leah Hunter and another by Hecker in the fourth cut IUP's deficit to 10-9. Lock Haven responded with a goal but the Hawks ran off three straight goals over a 2:55 span as Borland put them on top 12-11 with 4:13 left.

IUP had two more chances to widen its lead, but failed to score on either trip down the field. LHU took advantage of fouls on the IUP defensive end to score a free position with 18 seconds left to tie the game.

In OT, Chantal Jimenez grabbed the draw and allowed IUP to set up its offense as Mass found Borland for the winner.

Borland was one of three Hawks with four points, finishing with three goals and an assist. Hunter had two goals and two assists while Jordan Kulp had three assists to go along with a goal. Hecker also finished with three goals.

Jimenez dominated with 10 draw controls to go along with two goals. Maggie Marsteller had three ground balls and two caused turnovers defensively.
