INDIANA, Pa. - For the first time since early March the IUP softball team played at home as the Crimson Hawks split a doubleheader against Pitt-Johnstown at Podbielski Field on Tuesday. The Crimson Hawks won the opener by a score of 9-0 in five innings before dropping game two by a score of 4-0.
The Crimson Hawks are now 7-9 overall after today's split.Â
IUP scored in each of the first four innings en route to its run-rule win.
Jenna Rhue blasted her eighth homer of the year in the first inning, a two-run shot that also brought in
Allyssa Schmidt. The Hawks added two more in the second on a
Joelle Snyder single, four in the third highlighted by a run-scoring double by
Sara Tailford, and one more run in the fourth.
Schmidt, Rhue,
Haleigh Zimmerman and Tailford each had two hits. Snyder, Rhue and
Paige Truax had two RBI each.
Amanda Fischer had the complete game win in the circle, scattering three hits while striking out two in 5.0 innings of work.
The Hawks couldn't get their bats going in game two, managing just three hits. Zimmerman had two of those hits. Pitt-Johnstown scored in the first and third innings, adding two more runs in the seventh.Â

The Hawks are off for a week before returning to action Saturday at home against Bloomsburg. First pitch is 1 p.m.
