SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The IUP baseball team started PSAC West play Friday as the Crimson Hawks split a doubleheader at Slippery Rock. The Rock took game one by a score of 10-6 while the Hawks grabbed the nightcap with an 8-3 victory.
The Hawks are now 8-7 overall and 1-1 in league play. Slippery Rock is 11-2 and 1-1.Â
Mark Edeburn (3-2) picked up the complete game win in game two, fanning five while giving iup eight hits and three earned runs.
Peyton Johnson had a 3-run home run in the first inning to give IUP an early lead.
Harrison Pontoli also hit a homer while
Markus Cestra and
Austin Mueller each had doubles.
In game one, starter
Jeremiah Williams and reliever
Sean Furlong combined to strike out nine batters but they also gave up five homers in the loss. Mueller and
Jake Cherry each drove in two runs, while Mueller went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple.
These two teams wrap up their weekend series Saturday at IUP's Dougherty Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
