INDIANA, Pa. - Colton Burd hit a 3-run pinch hit walk-off homer as the IUP baseball team rallied to defeat visiting West Liberty 9-7 Wednesday afternoon at Dougherty Field.
Burd's home run came with one out in the bottom of the ninth to give the Crimson Hawks the mid-week non-conference victory. They evened their record at 15-15.
The inning opened as
Austin Mueller drew a a walk. Two batters later,
Torrey Roper singled through the left side as
Chris Rosa, pinch running for Mueller, advanced to second. The lefty Burd then came up to the plate and ripped a shot over the fence in right field to win the game.
It was one of three home runs by IUP batters on the afternoon, with
Markus Cestra hitting a solo shot in the first and
Jake Cherry hitting a 2-run bomb in the third. Other RBI hits came from
Au'sean Owens, Roper, and
Austin Homer.
Eli Glass picked up the win in relief, striking out one in the top of the ninth inning.
