Crimson Hawks make statement, shut out West Virginia State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The IUP women's tennis team continued its late season dominance with a 7-0 victory over West Virginia State Friday afternoon.

The two teams represent the top two-ranked teams in this week's NCAA Atlantic Region rankings - IUP at No. 1 and West Virginia State at No. 2.

It was the ninth straight victory for the Crimson Hawks, who also improved to 9-0 against Atlantic teams and 2-0 against regionally-ranked squads. IUP has outscored opponents 57-6 during its streak.

Four Hawks extended long singles win streaks on Friday, with No. 69 Karolin Kirchtag and Lydia Vlachou each winning their ninth straight with victories at the Nos. 1 and 5 spots, respectively. Laura Dunarova won her eighth straight with a win at No. 6 and Katy Graydon picked up her sixth win in a row at the No. 4 spot.

Also picking up singles wins were Joanna Stralka at No. 2 and Natasha Munday at No. 3.

Another streak was extended in doubles play, as the Hawks' top team of Munday and Stralka won their sixth in a row. Dunarova and Vlachou also won at the No. 3 spot to give IUP the doubles point.
