Crimson Hawks soar past Edinboro on the road, clinch postseason spot

EDINBORO, Pa. - Chloe Borland went over 100 career points and the IUP women's lacrosse team clinched the program's ninth PSAC tournament appearance with a 17-0 victory over Edinboro Saturday morning on the road.

This is the third conference tournament berth in the last four seasons for the Hawks, including the COVID-canceled 2020 campaign. All nine PSAC tournament appearances have come since 2012 (nine seasons).

It was the third straight victory for the Crimson Hawks as they improved to 11-4 overall and 8-2 in PSAC West play. They remain in second place in the divisional standings, one-half game behind Seton Hill (9-2) with one week left in the regular season.

Who stood out
Sarah Reustle: 3 goals, 3 ground balls, 1 caused turnover
Chloe Borland: 6 assists
Abigail Cermak: 3 caused turnovers, 2 ground balls
Chantal Jimenez: 1 goal, 1 caused turnover, 7 draw controls

How it happened
This was the second shutout of the season for the Crimson Hawks, who defeated Edinboro 21-0 in a shortened three quarter game last month.

IUP scored six times in the first quarter, five in the second, four in the third and twice more in the fourth. It took just 21 seconds for Katie Hibinger to to put the Hawks on the board with Chloe Borland tallying the first of her six assists. Sarah Reustle scored all three of her goals in the first quarter.

IUP reached 10 goals and got the block moving with 6:26 still left in the second quarter and rolled from there.

The Hawks dominated all facets, outshooting Edinboro 42-to-1 while forcing the Fighting Scots into 28 turnovers and grabbing 17 of the 20 draw controls.

Up next
The Hawks have two games left in the regular season, starting with Mercyhurst at home on Wednesday. They'll finish the regular season next Saturday at Slippery Rock.
