Crimson Hawks head to Bloomsburg for PSAC championships

INDIANA, Pa. - The top seed IUP women's tennis team (15-7, 6-0 PSAC West) heads into conference championship weekend as they'll play West Chester (9-9, 6-1 PSAC East) in the semifinals at Bloomsburg University on Friday. Match time is set for 2 p.m. 

The Crimson Hawks earned a bye in the quarterfinal round as the No. 1 seed in the PSAC West. West Chester, the No. 2 seed from the PSAC East, advanced with a 4-0 victory over Bloomsburg in the quarters.

>> IUP is making the program's 16th all-time PSAC tournament appearance, including its 11th straight dating back to 2011. Due to the pandemic, the 2020 PSAC Championships were canceled.
>> The Hawks are seeking their second straight and fourth conference title since 2017. IUP made eight straight appearances in the championship match, finishing as runners-up each year from 2011-16 before winning back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018.
>> IUP is 7-1 against Bloomsburg since 2012, including 4-0 in the PSAC tournament. These teams last met in the postseason in 2018 when IUP defeated the Golden Rams 5-0 in the semifinals.
>> IUP enters the postseason with four singles players on win streaks, including Karolin Kirchtag and Lydia Vlachou with 10 straight wins, Laura Dunarova at 9 straight, and Katy Graydon at 7 straight. The Hawks' top doubles pair of Natasha Munday and Joanna Stralka have won 7 straight.
>> Kirchtag leads all IUP players with a program record 29 singles victories. She also has 23 doubles wins for a team-best 52 combined victories this year. 
>> The Hawks are currently No. 1 in the NCAA Atlantic Region rankings, released Wednesday. IUP is 11-4 against Division II competition and 11-0 against Atlantic Region opponents.
