BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The IUP women's tennis team is headed to the conference finals for the second straight season as the Crimson Hawks defeated West Chester 4-0 in the semifinal round of the 2022 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship Friday at Bloomsburg University's Burt Reese Tennis Center.
The Hawks will be making the program's 10th appearance in the finals since 2011 and are going for their fourth championship in the last six years. IUP has won titles in 2017, 2018 and 2021.
IUP will face division rival Slippery Rock in Saturday's championship at Bloomsburg. The Rock defeated PSAC East champion Millersville 4-0 in Friday's other semifinal.
Katy Graydon clinched the match with her 6-1, 6-1 win at the No. 4 singles spot, defeating WCU's Yuno Oe. Also picking up wins in singles play were
Lydia Vlachou and
Laura Dunarova. Vlachou defeated Gabriella Lerario 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and Dunarova beat Alyssa Skulsky 6-0, 6-2 at No. 6.
IUP earned the doubles point with wins at the second and third spots.
Karolin Kirchtag and Graydon paired for a 6-0 win at No. 2 while Vlachou and Dunarova won 6-0 at No. 3.
This was the 11th straight win for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 16-7 overall. They're also 8-1 in PSAC tournament matches since 2017.
IUP-Slippery Rock
The Crimson Hawks won the regular season meeting by a score of 6-1 in Indiana on April 20. IUP is 15-1 against The Rock since the 2011 season.
