ERIE, Pa. - The IUP women's tennis team continued its week back in Pennsylvania as the Crimson Hawks defeated Mercyhurst 5-2 Tuesday afternoon at the Westwood Racquet Club.
It was the second win in as many days for the Hawks, who evened their overall record at 7-7 and improved to 2-0 in divisional play. They handed the Lakers their first PSAC West loss as they fell to 6-10 overall and 1-1 in the division.
IUP earned the doubles point with wins at the Nos. 1 and 3 spots.
Joanna Stralka and
Natasha Munday won 6-2 at the top spot while
Lydia Vlachou and
Laura Dunarova won by an identical score at three.Â
Vlachou and Dunarova also grabbed singles victories at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively. Vlachou won 6-4, 6-1 and Dunarova won 6-4, 6-4. IUP's two other singles victories came from
Karolin Kirchtag and
Katy Graydon. Kirchtag won 7-6 (3), 6-0 at the No. 2 spot while Graydon won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4.Â
Up next
This was the second match in a busy week for the Crimson Hawks. They'll host Slippery Rock Thursday, Charleston Saturday and Goldey-Beacom Sunday.
