Box Score GREENSBURG, Pa. - In a rematch of last year's regional final, the IUP women's tennis team again proved to be the best in the Atlantic with a dominant 6-1 victory over 23rd-ranked Charleston Saturday afternoon.
The win was the third straight for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 8-7 overall, including 5-0 against regional teams. IUP ended Charleston's 3-match win streak as the Golden Eagles fell to 10-7 overall.
The biggest individual win came from 42nd-ranked
Karolin Kirchtag at the No. 1 singles spot. She defeated 47th-ranked Prinkle Singh in three sets, 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 10-8.
The Hawks went on to score two more wins at the top-3 singles spots as
Joanna Stralka won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 and
Natasha Munday won 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. IUP finished singles play with five wins, with
Lydia Vlachou winning at five (6-2, 6-2) and
Laura Dunarova winning at six (6-1, 6-0).
IUP opened the match by earning the doubles point, getting wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. Kirchtag and
Katy Graydon won 6-2 at two and Vlachou and Dunarova teamed or a 7-5 win at three.
