ATHENS, Ga. – The IUP women's tennis doubles pairing of
Ming Deewajee and
Dani Ramos posted a thrilling victory at the the ITA Cup Saturday morning, knocking off a team from Maryville at the Rome Tennis Center.
Picking up the match following a rain delay on Friday, Dewajee and Ramos battled for a thrilling win against the Maryville duo of Carolina Velasquez and Billur Gonlusen. It marks the second doubles win in the ITA Cup for the IUP women's tennis program.
The match had its fair share of excitement, finishing in scores of 6-4, 6-7 (17), 11-9.
"What a battle," IUP head coach Andrew McGlashen said. "After a rain delay with the match yesterday at 15 all in a second set tiebreaker, the ladies did an amazing job staying composed."
The ITA Cup features some of the top doubles teams in the nation all competing for a shot at an individual national championship.
"We knew going into the tournament that every match would be difficult for Ming and Dani," McGlashen continued. "They asserted themselves as one of the best doubles teams in the nation."
IUP opened the event with a 6-2, 6-0 setback against the Washburn pairing of Maja Jung and Lara Schmid on October 12. Deewajee and Ramos have won 13 matches as a doubles pairing this fall for the Crimson Hawks.

Deewajee and Ramos have a shot for a conference championship in doubles, playing the conclusion of the PSAC Individual Championships at a date and time to be determined from the league.
