JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – IUP women's volleyball took down Pitt-Johnstown in straight sets, logging the team's sixth consecutive win with a road triumph on Saturday. Set scores were 25-15, 25-17 and 25-21.
IUP (19-7, 9-3) has lost just three total sets over the six-match winning streak, picking up four straight-set wins over that span. The Hawks controlled the match, limiting Pitt-Johnstown (17-8, 8-5) to just 26 kills on the afternoon and a .049 hitting percentage.
Grace Mangapora led the charge for the Hawks on the road behind a double-double effort of 12 kills and 10 digs.
Nyla Birch and
Delaney Concannon smacked eight kills each for IUP and
Kat Warpinski dealt out 26 assists. Concannon posted 10 digs, one of three IUP players with 10 or more.
Lualis Alvarado had nine kills on a tough day offensively for UPJ, while Gabi DeRenzo notched 13 digs.
IUP was in control much of the match from the start, using a 9-2 surge in the opening set. The Hawks used a similar surge in the second, flipping the momentum after UPJ earned a slight lead behind a 10-point surge.
UPJ got back within 20-19 in the third set before IUP found four of the next five points, capped by a
Lauren Valentic kill that sealed the victory.
