EDINBORO, Pa. – Falling behind early, IUP women's volleyball dropped a four-set battle to Edinboro on Saturday afternoon at McComb Field House. Set scores were 15-25, 17-25, 25-15, 12-25.
IUP (13-7, 3-3) surrendered 13 service aces on the afternoon and hit just .057 for the match in a disjointed setback. Edinboro (8-7, 3-2) used strong starts to open up a comfortable lead in sets one, two and four, handing IUP a second consecutive loss on Saturday.
Delaney Concannon registered a team-best nine kills and
Brooke Talbot added two aces for the Crimson Hawks.
Lauren Valentic logged nine blocks and
Caroline Walsh added six for IUP.
Natalie Pallone fired in 10 kills for Edinboro and Carly Pry recorded seven aces in a strong afternoon at the service line.
Down 14-6, IUP was never able to recover from a slow start in the first set. Edinboro rode the momentum into the second stanza, racing out to a 7-2 advantage. Another five-point surge widened the margin to 13-4 before IUP battled back. The Hawks got back within four (19-15) on an Edinboro attack error but could not make a substantial run, falling behind 2-0 in the match.
IUP turned the tables in the third set, scoring eight of the initial nine points of the frame. Stefania Anagnstou, Concannon and
Lauren Valentic all had kills in the opening run with IUP adding a pair of block assists.
Another rally, this time a 10-2 surge for IUP provided the visitors an 18-6 lead. Walsh closed out the set victory at 25-15 with a kill.
A six-point run put Edinboro ahead for good in the fourth set at 14-7. A dual block from
Nyla Birch and Walsh brought IUP back within five points at 16-11 before the Fighting Scots rattled off nine of the final 10 points.
